I am past due to upgrade my parts cleaning setup and am looking for thoughts on the various hot water & detergent parts cleaners and systems. Blocks and heads usualy get sent to town for the bake out deal but I deal with everything else and am looking into one of the units made by Ranger and sold by a hundred differant brand names. Anybody using same or similar? Freezing temps is a concern Id guess? What about sitting idle for long periods? Here is a link and pic of the one I am looking at, a model 500. http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/SWC-500-Spray-Wash-Cabinet-p/std-500.htm |

We have a small Landa hot water cleaner in our shop, works good. As far as sitting for awhile it wont hurt anything. Just turn the heater off so your not burning power and just have to remeber to turn it on ahead of time when you want to use it. Ours takes about an hour to heat up good. Not sure what you could do for cold weather besides leave the heater on all the time and check the water everyother day to make sure its not low and shuts the heater off. Our shop is heated so no worries thier.

I have used thoose type parts cleaners. You will really like it for cleaning just about anything that will fit in it. They are pretty much a giant dishwasher. I have cleaned engine blocks and they do just about as good as hottanking. Might brush a little more junk out of the galleries, but you need to brush them any way. |

We had one of those hot water chest type washers at guard. It worked great, but takes maintenance to keep it working good so it doesnt gunk up. We also had a smaller version here at work and it was a total failure because no one would take care of it, put in water and or soap and skim it off. We assigned a guy to service it but it never got done, now that also could also be a management problem. No one liked it so we went with a safety clean type drum washer that uses a non hazardous solvent. If you use it and keep it serviced the hot water ones are great, just have ro take time to get the water hot cause its absolutly no good with cold water. HTH |
