8000 series use electric shift on hi/low.The column switch shifts up and down and the clutch pedal switch which shifts it to low when tapped far enough.Problem I'm having is when using clutch switch to bump down, sometimes it comes out of high range but doesn't shift to low range.I think maybe it will shift to low after a few seconds but you've already about come to a stop(engine wide open) and I step on the clutch and then start over. It seems like the first time this happened I was caught off guard and it did go into low and jerked the #%^* out of things. I know that's what I am afraid will happen but memory and reality are foggy these days. Does a valve need polishing there by the solinoid? I don't think it's ever acted up using the column toggle to downshift.

Steve, I have the same problem on my 8010.  I think it's the solenoid underneath the tractor.  You have to remove the large skid plate & follow the wires down to the solenoid.  A tractor mechanic told me that was most likely the problem.  I've checked everything else & I think the problem is with the solenoid.  I haven't had time to work on it yet.  Let me know how your repair job turns out.  Mitch & Barb in West MI

I re-read your post and I think it's a switch that contacts the clutch pedal.  The mount for the switch is not very good and the switch may be out of place or out of adjustment.  I've had to re-adjust mine several times.  Hope this helps.  Mitch & Barb in West MI

Thanks Mitch.I'll check the switch mount but it missed a downshift with the lever Sat so the soliniod might be it.Need to call a shop foreman I know. Plenty of 8000's under his belt.
