Hello everyone
In the main bearing kit there’s instructions. Kit 74062331. For piston cooling with little ball. How should we make sure which piston cooling it is Just want to make sure we have it right. It’s a 1984 8050. Sr 2865 Thanks

There are only 2. Hole in top side of main saddle or rifle drilled big wrist pin rods. I would think yours has the big rods with the jet in the top side of wrist pin. Should be able to see hole on brg bore through slot in rod brg. Only time I heard of little balls it was for plugging main saddle because new main brgs have the hole to oil through the saddle. It happened on this forum earlier in the year. Guy O/H his 220? and had real low oil pressure afterward. Had a later replacement block which had drilled saddles and new brgs were letting the flow out and the pump couldn't keep up.Plugging saddles would have fixed it. Never heard how he made out.
Seems like he had the cam drive oil pump. Edited by SteveM C/IL - 02 Oct 2021 at 10:02pm |

ok thanks. I also remember the 220 post.
Had a guy pull the head because it kinda acted like there was a bent valve or something on #1 cylinder. And #1 and #6 cylinders are scuffed up pretty bad. So going to put six new cylinder kits in. And roll new bearings in to. We don’t really know history of tractor. New to us.

well that’s what we get for buying before the guy had pan down. The crank has been done. So bearings are .010. The part number for .010 rod bearing kit is 74062515 and agco crosses to 70277493. And the brg that’s in it is DSCB 1354P

All legit 8000 series 426 engines have the 3-ring pistons with the big piston pin and connecting rods that are rifile drilled for piston cooling. The engine block is also drilled for the older type piston cooling in the upper main bearing saddles. The 426 engines that used piston cooling thru the connecting rods still had the block drilled for piston cooling thru the upper main bearing shell and block saddle, but didn't use them. In those engines the upper main bearing shell didn't have the piston cooling passage and as a result the hole drilled in the block was covered by the main bearing shell. Well, sometime 20 or more years ago, they quit making the upper main bearing shells that blocked off the piston cooling jet in the block !! Pretty dumb idea. Now, they expect you to remove the crankshaft and plug those oil jets with the steel balls because the new bearing shells will be made for piston cooling in the block. If you have two methods of piston cooling working, you will have oil pressure problems. Be interesting to see what upper main brg shells you have in that engine. Maybe the oil holes are already plugged with steel balls.

got the .010 bearing kits. In the rod bearings there’s instructions to check and replace rod bolts.

So, what type of upper main bearing shells did you get (piston cooling or non-piston cooling)?? And what type of upper main bearing shells are currently in the engine ??

hi drallis
Here’s the new ones. Took picture of some. I don’t think the guy that’s working on it rolled any uppers out yet. Rod bearing Edited by Mikez - 16 Oct 2021 at 10:51am |

Yours probably late enough they already turned the rods around. Paper with rod bolts tells what about it I think. Rod brg slot goes to cam side I think.

Yup. Those are the upper main bearing shells that require the steel ball being driven into the oil squirter hole to block it, which means removing the crankshaft to do so.
