    Posted: 13 Feb 2023 at 8:20am
Greetings all,
I have been looking at previous posts trying to learn about an oil leak we are experiencing.  We have an 8050, FWA, and we are loosing Hydraulic fluid from the Trans.  It is going into the rear end, as it is overfull.  (remove the sight glass, and you have a gusher).  I assume that there is a seal that is out between the rear end and the transmission. What I read online, is that other people have the opposite of what I am seeing.  I am guessing a split is involved.  Is there something I can do in the meantime?  I have my 8010 in the shop split for a new engine/clutch, and I can't put it in the shop yet.

Thank you,
John

90% of the time transmission to rear end is the shaft seal on the gerotor pump/dual pump/steering pump. No split involved.

If that is the only problem, that will be beautiful news to John's ears.

While the pump are out, replace the seal in housing that drives pumps. That is 2 common leak.                     MACK

Dr. Allis, I have been looking at the AC shop manual for the 8050, and see the process necessary to get the pump apart, and how to replace the various seals in the pump.  On the parts book, there is a seal kit that contains all the items highlighted in Blue in the image below.

My First questions, is do I need to get the gasket that is pointed at by the blue arrow?  I assume this goes between the Gerotor pump and the piston pump.

Mack, What is the seal you are referring to?

#9 is the seal allowing the oil to transfer. Yes, you will need #37 gasket and two of #2 Oring seals. Mack is referring to the driveshaft seal that drives this dual pump assembly inside the rear end housing.

All,
I have managed to dig into the pumps, and am replacing all the o-rings, etc.  But while dissasembling the pump from the tractor, I found something new.

I found this bolt

In Here

In the drop tube/drain tube in the center of this image.

Anyone have any idea where this 6" long 3/8 capscrew might have come from?  It got bent somehow, and it got chewed on one side a bit.

Thank you
John

Power Director clutch pack bolt. Would require a split to repair, I think. If you remove that cover that the bolt fell out of, you'd be able to see where it came from. Have to turn the engine over by hand to get to the right spot. I might leave it aa-is but check all the others to be sure they are tight.

I'm  with the Dr. Tighten the others and forget the bent one. Should be a 3/8 nut some where.                     MACK

The 3/8" flange nut is probably down by the suction screen, or someone has already previously fished it out.

Project Update, and a few more questions.

1. Found the nut, and got it out.  The other 11 bolts are all secure.
2. Finally got all the parts in to rebuild the gerotor pump.
In putting it back together, I found the following damage, which I am wondering if it will impact the rebuild.

As you can see the lower edge of the inside looks broken/worn.  Not sure what rubbed there, but will it cause more problems?  I have a new seal that goes right in front of that, but I wonder if the small chips in the housing buy the sleeve will cause leaking, or if I can just go ahead and use it.

3. Lastly, I often had problems with the Hi-Low on this Power director tractor.  While I have everything apart, what is the likely problem?  Bad solenoid?  Something else?

Thank  you
John

My 8070 PD doesn't like to downshift at higher rpm...it goes to "neutral".... get on the pedal quick because it will find low in just a bit. Can you say "wheelie"? Toggle switch more so than tapping pedal. Knock 500 off the top and it's fine. Had PD apart 14yrs ago and fly balls and springs all seemed fine. I just work around it. What kind of trouble do you have? Often wondered if some valve/bore needs polished?

Clutch switch adjustment is usually the biggest problem.
Sorry, but I don't recognize your pictures.                   MACK

Can promise you the clutch switch adjustment isn't the problem on mine.
