    Posted: 16 Nov 2017 at 1:06pm
Greetings all,
I lost range shift on my 8010 PS tractor.  Right now, it is stuck in my driveway in between park, slow and fast.  The Park lock release cable broke, so I am planning to replace that.  This has hapened before.  When I spoke with someone to get the parts, they said that there is a plunger in the Range Shift that gets worn, and when replaced will allow shifting to go smoothly.  This, in addition to making sure the cable is in its proper hold down spots.
We have broken the park lock cable before, which adds evidence to the plunger being worn.  In addition, we have broken the actual fast slow lever.

THe picture below shows the range shift mechanism, and the plunger (item 1) from my shop manual.  Can I pull that side plate and replace that plunger, or do I need to remove the high low shift fork from above, before I take out that side plate?

Here you can see the underside of the shift tower.  The lever arm (upper yellow arrow), and the lever frame (lower yellow arrow) have been repaired before (my FIL was very rough on equipment).  The parts are still available from AGCO, but would cost about $700 all together.  The red arrow shows the spring loaded portion of the shift lever.   What sort of tension should be on that nut/spring combo?

Thanks for all your help.

Get the cables repaired and operating correctly first. Make sure that the outer shell of the range cable is secured in its slot, the tie straps have been known to fail. If you need to remove the round range plate, the top plate has to come off first. You would then take the two bolts out of the fork and just move it out of the way. The fork won't come out of the top,but can be removed through the round hole once the shift cover is off.

Tie the cables to the bracket with wire. Don't look as good as plastic ties but they will stay.      MACK
