    Posted: 25 Apr 2012 at 9:50am
On my 8010 with power shift, the range shift Hi-Low is extremely hard to shift most of the time.  I took the cable loose from the shift lever on transmission to see if the cable then  moved free.  It moved extremely easily.  My question is, could it still be the cable binding when under load?  Or could it be something else?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Have you ever replaced to cable? when they get old they are hard to shift. Replace it and you should be good.

When you are in gear, is there any sign of creeping???  A slightly warped PD or main clutch would cause hard shifting.

Most often,it's the cable. The 8000 series was introduced in 1982,that's 30 years ago.Time has a way of wearing on things like that. You might check how it shifts when it's running,or when it' shut off.If no difference, then I would certainly suspect the cable.

I have found on my 8030 there is a little drag, if I shift to reverse the range shift is easier, not the handiest thing but it solves my problem of hard range shift.

I do this too, mine has the forward creep to it, a quick reverse shift then back to neutral will make an easy shift to high, low, or park.
