How many are running an FWA 8000 series on a 12 row planter? Rrally wondering how it turns on the end rows? I am running a 7020 on a 12 row Deere 7200 with liquid fertilizer and no till coulters. Tractor does ok have weights on the front but something a little heavier and a little more horsepower would be great. Looking at 8030-8070 FWA tractors. Any opinions?

You got a few options when it comes to turning with an 8000. If you have the original tires and rims, you can either turn them out for planting so you can turn, and if you dont cultivate or spray with it you can leave them out. If you turn them in at a true 30" you got to have a light bulb turn riding the brakes to get it back in or plant 36 rows on the headlands. The other option would be to get spacers made so your at 32" or go to the salvage yard get a taller thinner tire with the right size for lead, and get one with a waffle center, set it at 34" and with taller narrower tire they turn as good as any.

You may want the power shift trans also, pulling out onto the road from a dead stop in 5th seems hard on the drive train. We have a fwa 8050 with stock rims set wide. You would have no problem getting back to the next pass with 24 end rows. I don't know how it would act with front wheels set narrow.

That is the worst part about my 7020 is roading it. Would be a powershift for sure would like one on 42" rubber but most are on 20.8s seems like

Have you considered a 2wd with 18.4's and spaced duals? We upgraded to a heavier 12 row planter so we're going to use our PS, 2wd 8050 with duals set to run in 30' rows.

I have considered going to just a 2wd 8000 series but feel like I will still want to go to an FWA tractor eventually I am patient so think I can find what I want. Just bought the 7020 last year and it will make it another if it needs to. I think the extra weight up front would be nice.

I have a 7020 pd also. If and when you do decide to go with a PS 80xx, you wont regret it.

You guys have better ground than I do but I run a 16 row 900 series ih planter behind a 7045. The only times I have gotten it stuck were in places I probably should have stayed out of anyway. I have switched to making deep headlines before I plant the rest of the field and makes the rows a lot straighter and turning easier. Haven't noticed yield loss that much.
