looking at a 7580, this one has the power shift...did all of them have it, or did some have the PD? i think i would rather have the PD in a big tractor, i like the power shifts on smaller tractors! how did the power shifts hold up in the big tractors?

I did not know any 7580 had the power shift. 7080 did not have PS, only went up to 7060.
I would say it would hold up in a 7580. Power through the PS never seamed to be a problem.  MACK

1981 dealer price sheet shows PD only [ no option for PS] in 7580.
Price was $59,469.00.
Wonder what that price would be in today's dollar?
Also equipted with fully independent PTO/1000, what implement would you pull and need PTO on that beast?

Chris, if you pulled a planter, pull type or if you really wanted to a 3 point, then a lot will need the pto for pump work.

Shameless, how do you know it's power shift, I am guessing you are looking at an ad.  People call the two speed power dirrector on the floor a power shift some times.

I was looking at Schulte mower's web site (we have there 15' batwings at work) a few years back and they offer a 42' batwing rotary mower and the picture shows it being pulled by a compareable large JD 4wd tractor.

if you found a 7580 with a powershift, someone had to of put it in there themselves. Suddenly planted an idea in my head, though. I've got this 7580 with the tranny out, and this burned up 8050 power shift that the tranny should still be good in............Naw, I don't think it'll work! LOL Darrel

The power shift was never offerd in the 7080 or 7580, due to the high horsepower. That is the reason the 70"80" became the 80"70", The tractor was detuned as to not over power the powershift.

i worked for AC for awhile back in the '80's, but never was able to get close to a 4x4 to see or drive. no one in our area wanted a 4x4 of any color back then!

Actually, the main reason was to gain engine reliability.  The 426 wasn't all that happy about turning 2550 rpm.

Mack, I am not accustomed to you being wrong, so please explain what you mean by different.  I looked on the AGCO online parts book, and the T-handle shifter is the same as any other 7000 series of similar size, excluding the small models like the 7000  The floor stick is also the same, in the early models.

Shameless, did you see a big T-Handle on the right console, with kinda a hump down where it goes into the console?  That was the redesigned T-Handle, which did nothing more than move the "stick" off of the floor, but it is very much a standard power dirrector transmission.

the powershift was not offered in the 7080/7580 because of the higher rpm, not because it wouldn't take the power.

The range-park shifter was made heaver because the range trans was in the back bogy. So had to have bigger cable to go that far.  MACK

On our 7580, the park brake engages a metal plate with slots in it instead of just moving a cable like the 7045 and 7060 I have.  It is more heavy-duty, and doesnt bind as often as the others do, but when you accidentally get it between high/low/park, it is a real mess to move things around with your plier handle to get it all going again.  The PTO is the big 1000 rpm shaft on ours.
