 Topic: 715 B INJECTOR PUMP

jUST BOUGHT A 715 BACKHOE AND DOESN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING ANY FUEL. i CAN START W/ STARTER FLUID BUT SHE WON'T RUN WHEN i STOP SPRAYING? ANY ONE HAVE AN IDEA ABOUT THE PUMP OR EVEN A PIC OF THE SERVICE MANUAL REPAIR PAGE? ALSO how can I tell what year it is can't seem to find any serial #'s except the engine #.. thanks alot I'M kinda a newbie to this so I might ask a bunch of questions.

will see if I have pics. look at the stop linkage make sure the linkage is pushing the injector pump on. Had a tractor at work that the pump stop linkage, didn't push the pump stop all the way open, made for hard starting. then check and see if fuel is getting down to the pump. When was the last time, it was run. fuel oil gets a bug that grows in it and causes all kinds of problems. If it ran a few years ago the it just does not start today start with the fuel system. I think that unit has a fuel pump on it. That has a primer lever on it. that might need to be used to get fuel moving. Taking apart a injector pump without a very clean aera is asking for trouble. Thinke the 816 has the same enging put a pic in the post below

I've had a 715 and currently have a 715B. Perkins engines can be real nasty to get running after they run out of fuel. You will have to crack an injector line at the injector to get the air out before it will start. Thats after you have done all the bleading at the filters, pump, etc

If it has sat for any length of time, the fuel has likely went sour, and the pumping plungers are stuck. Happens alot with Roosa's, and CAV's. good luck!

Primary pump on engine is more than likley problem.
Srl# should be on plate on left side of tractor near operators platform , on frame just ahead of oil tank box. Look at picture of my machine and it is black plate
I have been able to get system clear of air by using a puff of starter fluid as it is trying to run. Just a puff to keep it going until it takes off on it's own.
Be sure the pump shut off lever is in right position On mine it is bass ackwards out to run , in to kill on dash control knob.

At the Chevy garage we used to soak a good size rag in gas and hold it on the air intake after filters were replaced. Started every time.

To all the guys who answered me thanks alot your help was great! I drained the tank and flushed, pulled primary pump and every fuel line off and blew out with the compressor ,changed the filters,then re assembled. used the primary pump to prime both filters and the injector pump took about twenty minutes.used 2-3 puffs of either and she fired rite up. took a couple to smooth out but runs like a top now. Again thanks for all your help. took about two hours start to finish . LIAM
