1978 7060 black belly power director wont move. Weve checked linkage, checked valve body preassure,(by left foot just outside the cab.) It seems to shift in and out of gear fine. We checked the forks and transmission, both looked fine, i think preassure at the pump was checked and ok as well. Is there any other things we should check? We're at a loss and are running out of things it could be.

Had a 7030 that stripped splines off a shaft, don't remember which one but stopped to adjust the disc and got in and wouldn't move. Was a shaft that ran inside another one.

If the power steering works, and the other hydraulics work, chances are very good the splines on the clutch housing have failed.

If the splines have stripped in the clutch hub, you should be able to shift it into gear with the engine running and not using the clutch with very little to no grinding of the gears.

So i guess we didn't check anything on the hydraulic pump. Would that make a difference on whats wrong? And how do we check it?

Had a 7060 that stripped all the bolts on the ring gear in the rear end, same symptoms

Except, with ring gear bolts being sheared off, you could not shift the transmission into gear easily with the clutch pedal UP. That is the key to figuring out it is the splines on the clutch housing. |

If the torque limiter is severely slipping on the back of the flywheel or has even broke the center out of the disc, then you won't have any hydraulic functions at all when the engine is running. The transmission oil pressure light should be on if this has happened. Be sure that the range lever is actually shifting the lever under the floor and the outer shell of the cable is not just sliding in the clamp. The upper range cable clamp can get loose and cause trouble. The lower clamp shouldn't be a problem on the later tractors, it was a problem on the some of the earlier models. Ring gear bolt failures were a problem 45 years ago?? But I personally haven't seen any recently. And like the DR. said , you would still have some grinding of gears when you shift it with the clutch up. I did work on one black belly 7060 that the splines slipped on the hollow main shaft in the range box where it couples to the transmission. It made a hell of a noise though when trying to move.

I have also saw coupler between transmission and range transmission slide forward. MACK
