Going to go look at a 706 forklift tomorrow. I don't know anything about these. Seller says this one has a 4 cylinder Perkins and a torque converter. What can you tell me about them??

They're a good forklift. Check torque converter fluid level & color. Check to see if Trans pops out of 2nd gear (most popular gear (worn shift forks & shift collar gear). Perkins isn't going like cold weather starts, so look for collateral heater. Side shift forks are a great feature.

The 706 is not based on any A-C tractor so second gear should not be problem. Similar power train to the 715/715B TLB and I've had one of those for 40 years. Power train is bullet proof. My literature lists a 203 Perkins, Borg and Beck torque converter, and I know the drive axle is Ford. Should be a mid 70's vintage.

I own & have operated two of these for over 15 years. I bought both in used condition. One is a gas 706B, other is a 706D. The 706D has always popped out of 2nd gear. Previous owner wore out 2nd gear, and was decent enough to communicate it before I bought it. It is still a good machine. I never mentioned it having an AC Trans. I also own a 715. I've had to repair torque converters on two of them. So, Trans are good, but I don't believe they are bullet proof. |
