A friend is looking at a 7030 and was wondering what to look out for as far as trouble spots. I don't know whether it is PD or PS but I am thinking PD.JP

Make sure the hydraulics and range shift cables move freely. They are about $100 or more each and get stiff on tractors that sit a while. Also the foot clutch cable. Check engine oil for any signs of antifreeze. I touch the dipstick with my finger and then touch my finger to my tongue. You'll taste the antifreeze. Sitting on the lot it's pretty hard to know if it transfers transmission oil and hydraulic oil internally. You can check the sight glasses on the rear end and the dipstick under the seat to see if they are at the proper levels. Top sight glass should be half full. Good tractors with few problems in my book. I have a 7050 and my brother has a 7030 and we love them.

LOL! Hey, that's my trick! Not just antifreeze, but that tell-tale flavor from having been badly overheated. Learned from doing oil-changes in the old Sunoco station & having oil drip on my face, then wiping it off - only to think "hmmm, now THAT tasted weird". |

The good thing is it still belongs to the guy that has been using it. They brought it to town and parked it for sale and then came and got it to use it some more. They bought a new NH and it apparently didn't have enough hyd hookups so they had to use the old tractor to roll hay with. They may change there mind about selling it.JP
