Got a black belly 7000 was wandering if there is an adjustment on the transmission brake it’s grinding a lot while trying to shift into gear   Is there a measurement on the spring that pulls the the brake on. Tractor is new to me been sitting several years I have the fuel tank off now just cleaning it out so it would be easy to get to the assembly

Takes a bit for every thing to stop. A operators manual is your best bet. Black belly and maroon belly are a little different.                    MACK

I don't have the service book in front of me, so going from memory. If your tractor has the correct updated parts, the spring to apply the trans brake is 2 inches in diameter or more and 4 inches long or longer. Anyway, measure the springs compressed length as it is now. (This assumes it is adjusted correctly). When you step down FULLY on the clutch pedal, to where it hits its stop bolt and cannot go any farther, the spring should have been compressed almost another 1/4" tighter. (I think the actual number is .200".) This is measured at the front two adjustment nuts on the threaded rod. There is a sleeve that would move away from the double nuts. So, if you are not getting .200" to .250" movement of the sleeve, move the front two nuts forward enough to achieve that. THEN, YOU MUST MOVE THE REAR TWO NUTS FORWARD THE SAME AMOUNT to keep the spring compressed length the same.

Thanks went out this morning and checked the tractor the spring was not applying any pressure to the plate with clutch fully depressed so adjusted it forward about 3/4 inch and now with clutch all the way down I’ve got 1/4 inch movement of rod out of sleeve we’ll try this when we get it running thanks again

Was it working fine and then suddenly quit working?? I've heard of (never seen one) the friction material coming off of the brake pad inside the tractor. That would cause a sudden change in how well the trans brake works. You wouldn't want to operate it without friction material because it would then be steel on steel, contaminating your whole hydraulic system.

Just got the tractor home Sunday and got it started it has been sitting for years I drove it around to make sure it was mechanical sound before I invested any money in it everything works except the twist handle was stuck have got it working better and while working on that I noticed te transmission brake wasn’t working so I have no idea if the friction material could be off or not. Got it started again this morning gonna drive it around again. Got all new filters coming from b and g so when I change the hydraulic filter will inspect and see if I can see any material

Just for an update after adjustment the clutch brake is working as it should only can’t get the handle twisted enough to go into 1st and 2nd may need more pb blaster and working more back and forth thanks Dr for your help

Power Director ?? Maybe. There must be zero freeplay in the clutch pedal with the engine off. Many times the fork bushings are worn out and the cable end ball socket too.

kind of confusing, but if when asking about .... call a 7000 just that and all others 7000 SERIES... (7010-7080). I have made a few boo boo'$ by not being really clear on which model we were discussing.

Power director, yes.  Probably need the bushings.  The cable itself was new a few years ago, but I did not replace the bushings at that time.
