Got a couple questions on these, does a 7010 -7020 have the Powerdirector ? I know they are heavier- always wanted a 7000 but don't they have the 3 speed powershift and kind of one of a kind - design, and a 200 with the powershift but under 7000 series sheet metal, ? Gonna be looking for a 7000 series with a cab and would like to stick with the 301 diesel

I have a 7020 power direct. They came in power shift or power direct. Mine has the 20 speed pd,you have a high and low range with five gears in each range. You have to use the clutch for any shifting in those gears. The button on the floor is a high or low in each gear. Yes the 7000 is a much different lighter duty tractor than the 7010 or the 7020. I like my 7020, I just don't ask too much more of it than I would a 200.

A 7000 is a modified 190XT/200 drivetrain, they took the power director which was direct drive in high, and under driven in low, then added an overdrive to give the three speeds. A 7010/7020 are totally different, essentially a 7030 drivetrain, with either 16 or 20 speed power director, or the 12 speed power shift, like the 7040/7045/7060 could have.

7010 and 7020's had a 16-speed Power Director as standard equipment and 20-speed as an option or the 12-speed Power Shift as an option.  The "7000" was a next generation 200 with an overdrive (3-speed under-direct-over), a transmission brake, a park lock, and a true independent 540/1000 RPM PTO.  Very few driveline parts interchange between a 200 and 7000.

Is there one tranny type better than the other, PS/PD ?? Is one less $$ to repair than the other? I've only run a 7045 30 years ago for a neighbor that had the 2 buttons on the floor but for the life of me, I don't recall how the shifter was?? I know for sure there was no "T" handle on the side console involved :-)

Im thinking the Power Director is cheaper to redo- as that's the 2 nd clutch unit, as a Powershift is more intentense and a lot of critical increments of adjustments

Am I correct that a PD has the floor buttons? I do remember the 7045 being a Cadillac compared to our D-19 and the OTHER neighbors 210 (which was an awesome tractor also LOL!!).

Power director has floor buttons high and low.

I have a 7010 with the 16 speed power director.

I know a lot of guys prefer power directors for field work because of 20 speeds but if you have to drive any distance down a hilly curvy road to get to the field than I know you would love a power shift. There’s a reason we have 3. I can’t speak on cost to repair them because we’ve never had to work on them. I think both are good but unless I was only doing heavy tillage I choose a power shift. Good luck

I know for sure that a 7045 Power Director transmission has a "T" handle on the console. If someone switched it over to a 7040 shifter, it would be on the floor.

Sadly, my memory is from 36 years ago, I was in high school with a VERY voluptuos red head, the 7045 was dualled-up (was AWESOME looking compared to our D-19), had a FM stereo that played the best music of all time (80's music LOL!!) and hardly snorted pulling a 9 shank Brillion Soil Saver. I just don't recall the t-handle though, the floor buttons I do. I'm pretty sure they bought it new and didn't have anything changed, I was possibly thinking of the red head more than the T handle though LOL!! The 7045 was/is an AWESOME machine though IMO, even though I will never own one :-(
