O/hauling the little 8010 engine. I heard once from someone that some co. had a kit that offered a little more HP & better cold starting than stock Agco kit. Anyone have knowlege or was I dreaming. Thank's

Not dreaming, you're thinking of the high compression ratio kit. There are only two companies that make a high compression ratio kit. The Herschell-Adams kit is sold by Valu-Bilt and then there's the PowerMax kit. I am not sure if there is a difference between the two. I put a PowerMax kit in my 7000's 2900 MKII and it looked like it just increased the compression ratio with a smaller combustion chamber. I kind of wish I had taken pictures to compare, but didn't think about it while the engine was apart. The Herschell-Adams kit may have a different shaped upper ring to help build compression at cranking speeds? Maybe someone else can answer this for certain. One thing to be careful of when rebuilding is to make sure your valves are not ground down too far, as that will cost you compression. The kit I bought bumped the compression ratio from a stock 15:1 to 16.3:1. I can't comment on power, but it starts better than the engine did before the rebuild (I can get it to start within about 10 seconds of cranking in a shop at around 30 degrees, so nothing mind blowing, but not bad in my book.

Whichever one used to be the M&W power seal kit is a good one. Put that in my 8010 back in 2004 and now I can start it down to 25 degrees with no ether or heat of any kind. With ether it will start down to 15, but I try to avoid using ether. Very happy with the performance.

Is it possible to add an intercooler on this engine like a 7020 had while doing a rebuild. Would the fuel pump differ significantly from a 7020 set up?

The inner cooler is a bolt on with all the right pieces.Hershel Adams sells the M&W design kits with the headland ring on the piston.They call them Power Seal. I moved the 8070 the other day when it warmed up to 34 deg and it was running before you could count "one thousand one". Good stuff.

Head land ring has a right angle cross section.It's mounted around the top dia of piston head.The "L" shape fits in groove while the verticle side rides on cyl wall.Compression pressure gets between ring and piston and forces ring against wall for tighter sealing.Has the added benefit af increasing compression distance since it's at the top not down the side.

The PowerMax kit doesn't have the headland style top ring from what I remember. At the same time, the kit is also about half the price of a Herschel Adams kit. The PowerMax kit will run you more than a TISCO kit, however, but it is definitely a good quality kit. I called them and asked them about the parts they use to make the kits, and they used all name brand American or European company parts if they didn't make them. My tractor won't fire right off at freezing temperatures, but it will start if I need it to. Usually I just keep it plugged in. I keep the ether away from it, can't afford to risk blowing up that engine after the money I sank into it.
