What series Agco would be compatible with your tractor. A friend of friend has an Agco he says he’s gonna fix. Been trying to buy or a while but he wants me to price it. Can’t remember the size he lives a couple hours away but I can call for series from buddy.

Boneyards can be useful, even with shipping; there have been several recommendations including Heitman Tractor Salvage in Durand, WI - https://heitmantractorsalvage.com/
I have a 6140, 2WD though. One of a kind is right. Too bad, they're a very good tractor. The only real "problem" I've had is finding parts... I'd hate to see you part it out. But ya gotta do what works for you.

Also check out eBay, Fakebook Marketplace, craigslist - I've found good parts (not just for the 6140) in each.

I’d be leary of Heitman. I’d sooner try Worthington or there’s someone by the name of Cooks in Illinois.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Heitman, and I've done a lot of business with them. FWIW this is the first I've heard of any problems.

I bought a 6080 from him that as far from how described it. Bolts on oil pan only finger tight, it would leave a puddle of diesel on the floor overnight the throttle shaft was so worn, steering cylinder leaked so bad I had to turn the steering wheel constantly going down the road, air cleaner was 18 years old, alternator toast, it had a short and burned up the starter. PTO shaft broke off internally in 3 places. Far from the good running little tractor with a slight noise in the rear end.

Ron's right...the 6140 is one of a kind! Just check around for parts and you'll find that out, even from AGCO! Just a throw out bearing from AGCO was near impossible to find...

hmm sounds like you're between a rock and a hard place..... if, IF you could sell it, whole or parts, would the cash buy a more common tractor ? Having an 'orphun' might make finding GOOD parts, especially the ones YOU need, rare or pricey. My gut's telling me ,another GOOD tranny might be the best option. Hopefully someone here knows what's grinding, the cost to fix and the TIME involved. Knowledge is power. Have you got a nice big, clean garage to work on it ? Something tells me this ain't going to be a quick, easy job......
