Still looking for somebody who has repaired the rear brakes on the 6000 series tractor. The service manual isn't too clear and there are few pictures. Looks like I have to pull the rear wheel and axle and the brake disk and caliper is in the differential. I have bled the brake and the pedal is hard, no give, so I am presuming something is broken or jammed in the caliper.

Caliper is only for hand parking brake it is not on the rear axle . Just what is your problem .Foot brake or parking brake . Caliper comes out side of rear housing
. Disc stay in on shaft for parking brake. Look over service manual again.

I believe there are o-rings inside the trumpet that need to be changed on a piston. Not quite a caliper but if you look at the Agco parts book it should have a pretty good image..

If pedal is hard but no brake, sounds like splines are striped on brake disc. Is both sides hard or just one? Need more info. MACK

Not the parking brake, that works. It is the left wheel brake. I have bled the system and both pedals go down while being pressed with bleeders open. After closing the bleeders, the right brake works but the left brake will not depress. Like it is hitting something solid. I have right wheel brakes only. I am not at home to reference the service manual. However, I have looked at it and understood there was a caliper and disk and it appears to be in the differential. I am looking for somebody that has repaired or replaced the wheel brakes and can explain how they work. AND, what I have to remove to get in there.

The service brakes are splined to the sun gear off the differential. They are a wet brake oiled from rear end fluid. If you can get fluid movement out of the bleeder on that side then you have ruled out the master cylinder. It has to be in the brake piston/ brake disc area. If it were mine before I took it apart I would pull the bleeder screw and blow compressed air in there to try and get the piston broke loose (going to have a lot of oil spray when doing this). You are not going to be in any of a worse situation even if you blow a seal on the piston because it has oil for brake fluid ( I use trans fluid in mine). Start with a lower pressure and work up to a higher pressure.
The piston for brake apply is just like a piston for an auto trans or power shift. You will have to pull the axle/final drive housing. It is set on studs so it makes it a little easier, there is a ring gear for the final drive then the short shaft that has the sun gear on it then the brake disc then piston. None of it is light.
