I want to talk to someone who has repaired the foot brakes on a 6000 series. My left wheel brake is solid, no give in the pedal. I have bled and everything is fine, so it must be in the actual caliper/disk in the rear end. Something is either jamed or broken or seized up. Right brake workes fine. Before I tear into this, I want to talk to sombody who has been there!

It is not leaking or using brake fluid. I have a feeling somebody has put brake fluid rather than hyd. oil in it . Book says that is a no no.

If brake fluid was used it will leak,, sounds like the pedal assembly needs taken apart and lubed up , as they do this , its a pretty sinple job , just gotta put things back together as they came apart

I have never had to go into the brakes on a 6000 series, but I have had to take apart the pedal assembly to free up the pedals where they pivot. Each pedal pushes on a spool to actuate the brake. You should be able to push on each one of the spools by hand to see if they will move.

I would guess exit port on valve is plugged.
Could you push pedal down when you bleed it? If so, it is not in the valve. MACK |

I have had the brake assembly out and it is free. The pedals react properly when I bleed the brakes, they both go to the floor. The right brake works properly, the left brake has no movement, and no brake action. The shop manual pictures and text don't really show exactly how the brake caliper/disk is supposed to work. I really don't see, from pictures and text, what can be jamed or seized. Exactly what would brake fluid instead of hyd oil do to the sustem?

Bill,
My thought is that it is the brake calliper/piston seal that is leaking and due for replacement. It is located in the wheel trumpet. The wheel has to be removed, then the trumpet. You will see a large piston inside there with multiple square rings. The tractor is 35 years old. It happens. |
