5040 PTO problem?

   Have a 5040 that I cannot engage the PTO when it is running...I do not have a service manual.  Are there adjustments I can make.  I have not pulled the cover off that the pto selector arm sits on to see what is underneath.  Went to AGCO parts book and really did not see anything that helped me from the parts book.  Any ideas would be helpful.  If you have a service manual and can send a few pages on that area, my e-mail is hoosierhay@gmail.com
