That was the first 5040 literature. The very first tractors had 6 speed trans. not shown in any literature, they were tough little tractors, but you had to show the customer how to shift the 6 speed properly or you would be back taking the cover off and aligning the shift rails. Cal in Ct

i have its bigger green cousin , oliver 1355, and we have had it for 41 years, it has been an excellant little tractor that has served well with over 10000 hours on the original motor.
the little tractor has had a one clutch replacement and one set of thrust bearing and bushing in the front and that has been it.
i know they are not reak allis chalmers/olivers but the one i have has been a great tractor, even if fiat did build it

I was lucky enough to be the only guy with tractor/ farming experience working at a tree farm when the 5040 came out. The nursery bought 2 diesels for the wagons and maintenance work. I have never forgotten the time I was brush hogging around the poly houses, and, a rock flew into the dash (look at lit.) and ricocheted into my eye. Out of all of the tractors I have mowed with, none, have ever had a dash design like that to make that happen again, until just now, my eye needs some visine bad !!! I am going to copy the literature as its the first time I have ever seen it . Thanks for posting Richard

I had to go back and read the literature, the FOOT THROTTLE was of little or no use on a tractor with that close of a wheel base.... wa waaaaaaa waa waaaaaaaaa wa waaaa, you know that was bad ,had to use hand throttle. DIFFERENTIAL LOCK, man was that ever handy, and, in a great spot. EASY OFFFRONT GRILL, you can say that again, it was always off under the front tires, I spent more time fiber glassing and painting the grills than farming !!! Still love though, great little tractors !!!
