Hello. I own a 1963 D17 great old girl. I noticed my three point wasn't working well, so I checked the fluid,. Replaced what was needed and it worked great for about 5 min, checked fluid again and it was low. Checked my transmission fluid and of course it was overfull . I feel iam a capable mechanically, just need to know if I have to split the tractor or is there an easier way,. As iam assuming it must be a seal or something that drives the Piston for the three point. Any experience would be greatly appreciated.. lance |

See the post re: splitting the D14. You do not have to split the tractor; just remove the rear pumpkin containing the rockshaft piston. Works best to have a helper; especially when re-assembly time comes. I remove the transport valve from the hose going into the pumpkin and pull the lower cylinder pin before pulling the pumpkin. Once out, you can (normally) replace the hose and cylinder packing W/O removing the top cylinder pin. Just be careful not to break off the pipe nipple screwed into the cylinder that the hose attaches to. When reassembling orient and extend the piston, run a guide wire from the end of the hose thru the transport valve hole, then have the helper push the pumpkin in and lift the cylinder so that you can install the lower cylinder pin. Once that is done, push the pumpkin into place and finish the job.

yep, I'm in the process of fixing the same issue on my d14. this is my first time doing it and it ain't all that bad. I thought I was gonna have to take the loader off and split the tractor, but just had to take the rockshaft off the back.

remmeber TWO empty 5 gallon buckets ! Don't worry about dropping the plug into the bucket either, it'll be safe there. Whatever you do do NOT have it in your hands and answer the phone......3 days later you'll FINALLY see it next to the phone....sigh, getting old is so much fun....

And each drain plug has a copper or plastic washer on them for a good leak-free seal. Don't leave that seal in the bucket.
