I am looking at a very clean original 330 corn planter. I don't know much about AC planters, what can you tell me about them and what is a ballpark value of a very clean unit that has always been stored in the shed and well taken care of?

I have a 4x30" I bought used about 15 years ago. They come in several variations, common or individual drive units, runner or disc openers, liquid or dry fertilizer, optional pesticide and herbicide hoppers, etc. I think that was the first model only with fiberglass hoppers, but I could be mistaken on that. I think all were air singulation, but I could be mistaken on that also. Most wear parts were still available a few years ago like openers, scrapers, dry fertilizer augers and the seed singulation pads. The pads are a biggy, if the foam is brittle or degrading you will not get good singulation. I think most plastic seed discs are still available, but pay attention to the housing they seat against, if the metal housing is all wore or badly grooved you will have air leakage, affecting singulation. Those are the things that readily come to mind.
Value....I think I paid $1,200.00 for mine, but I am betting the bigger the planter the higher the cost since hardly anybody uses a 4 row anymore. |

I had a super nice one. A 4 row that was wide and I set it to narrow. I kinda miss it. It was easier, IMO, to set the population and much easier to remove the boxes for cleaning and getting at the sensors compared to my 5100 White. The White is an excellent planter but there were some things I liked on the Allis better.

Father bought a 4-38 15 years ago for a $100 in pretty decent shape. Its air champ, disc openers and common drive. Depending on how many rows and drive type it is, its probably worth $500-2000. Ive seen some nice 6 rows in that upper range. If i wasnt using 385s i would have bought a 6 row 330, ones still on my want list but have other priorities. They are easy to work on, and can keep up with the newer planters.

I sold mine to an organic chicken farmer up near Duluth. He pulled all that way from near Rochester. I sure hope he has taken good care of it. I am still am kicking myself for ever selling it. Not many around in the shape mine was in. I bought it from a guy up near Northfield MN. He bought it new in 1982 along with an 8010. I think the 8010 was his big tractor.
