    Posted: 06 Jun 2011 at 9:36pm
I am still looking for a good set of plows for my D17 IV gas.  Some had recommended the White plows as excellent, and I have located a 3-16 not too far away for a decent price.  However, it just seems like a massive plow for the D17.  Here is a picture of a similar plow from TractorHouse (this is not the exact plow I am looking at).

WHITE 348

Technically, the 17 should pull it, but it just seems like too much plow and too much weight.  Any opinions?

I use a Model 74 4-14's snap coupler mounted plow on my Series IV.  I have 300 lbs of Hundred series stack weights out front plus 50 lbs of washer fluid in each front tire.  Works good.  If you like the plow go for it.  Mike

Thanks for the pic Junkman.  I remember you had posted when you first bought the plow.  Now the obvious question, have you plowed much with it, and how did the D17 do pulling it?  Actually, I also found a 4-14 AC plow like yours at a good price and in great condition, but still think the 17 won't really handle it well under heavy soil conditions or on hills like we have.

Well I have got to try it out gut that is about it. I plowed a little on my dads to see what would happen, it was tall sage grass but it seamed to do fine except not in third gear. the main patch I want to plow is really grown up and extremely trashy so it was plugging up on me. I figure I will take my new disk down there and chop it up first. it might even do better now for the new tire I put on the left hand side was full of fluid.

Well being fully mounted will help you out. Try pulling 3-16s with a trailer plow if you want to see what that D17 is made of.

Your D-17 will pull a 3/16" plow all day long!
Here's a shot of three WD45s plowing some dry rock hard black dirt last year and the WD45 in the middle is pulling a 3/16" plow in 2th gear through this just fine.

I have been in the same field with Mike's D-17 plowing lots of times with this four bottom plow and it pulls it just fine.

Yepper all depends on soil type and plow type (full mount, semi mount, pull type). Garantee a WD45 wouldn't pull 3-16s around here if it were pull type and I'll bet there would be plenty wheel spin as it is with the fully mounted.
