301 thrust bearing failure UPDATE

Last fall we had one of the 200's on the auger and noticed it lost a little water. Dad bought this tractor in 82 from the original owner. Hours have to be 12-15k plus. After getting the 8070 and the 7020 rod bearings done the 200 was next. It has sat for 60 days, pulled the oil drain plug out just far enough to get liquid out. The first qt was water. Got it in the shop yesterday. Got the pan pulled today and #5 had a drip of green. Pulled the rod caps, bearings had 11-73 stamped on them, the tractor is a 74 model. Rod bearings look pretty bad. Main thrust lower bearing front thrust was laying in the pan, it really doesn't appear to have wear on it. The upper shell looks ok, have not gotten it out yet. What would cause the front flange of the lower thrust to break off and leave the upper thrust bearing looking unharmed and not worn. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Gonna be a complete rebuild. Got the block stripped. Cam bearings bad. Mains bad and rod bearing really bad, 2 sleeves bad, broken rings, clutch, water pump, on and on. Going to check crank tomorrow and get a kit coming. Hard to believe it ran well enough to get it into the shop like this. At least it's gonna be warmer next week to get the pressure washer out to clean the block and all the other parts.

yes antifreeze , when ordering kit get the high compression pistons and see if the larger od thrust bearing fits .also check lower block  , the first 301s had three orings on them ,you can cut the new sleeves for the third one  and install three
