yes but you will need the tractors engine rear plate. there might be a few other modifications but thats the main on that i know of.

front covers will need to be swapped as well - the biggest problem is the front axle will hit the larger oil pan on the XT - Either find a 200  front hsg or cut and reweld the pivot pin on the axle about 3.5" higher (or whatever the bolt hole distance is on the rear axle support) and add a plate on top of the rear axle support drilling it to fit the holes as the top set will now become the bottom set. 
The fan location on some L's will be different and the shroud will have to be modified. Keep the electric fuel shut off - it is neater.

You will also need to swap the front cover and if I remember right the cylinder head is different, I swapped one into 7000 a few years ago and i beleive it was a water port that was different, so i swapped the head.

Is there also such thing as a Mark II 2900? I was told the one in the L2 is a Mark II but wasnt sure of that.
