226 pistons/sleeves flat vs. dish

   Is it possible to put a 4.375 piston with sleeve into the block without having any machining done to the block? Or would the sleeves be too thin? Would water still be able to pass through block? And would it be better to run them as flat top or have a dish machined into them. He would be able to machine in any compression height, looking close to 10:1. A friend of mine just got a new machine in his shop and he wants to custom make some sleeves and pistons for my D17. We still plan on running in farm stock, with this set up it would be at 270c.i. with stock crank or 300c.i. with 5" stroker crank. Looking for some ideas and perhaps tips, wanna try something a little different for next year. Does well with set up now, could use a few more ponies for the bigger fair classes we pull at, as far as Antique Puller clubs consistent winning 1st 2nd and 3rd in the #5000 and #5500 classes

	Matt, sounds like it might be thin on the sleeves. I do know a couple guys running over 800 cu in in a MM U with what looks like 3 lb coffee cans for sleeves though.They don't run high compression and run stock rpm's too. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 24 Jul 2010 at 9:10pm

	I've got my 4 1/8 out now but are at machine shop.Didn't measure sleeve wall but it's not any more than 3/16 so I'd guess a 1/16 sleeve @4.375 bore is too thin
