220 tractor chassis s/n is 1012. The engine is 3D-09771. So, any D-21 engines are at least 12 engines before this 9771 s/n range. I actually saw D-21 s/n 1003 or 1004 many years ago (it got turned into a pulling tractor) and the engine was like 3D-1030 or so.

Where did the 210 fit in? According to Tractordata.com, both the 210 and 220 were manufactured from 1970-1973m but, for some reason, I thought the 210 was out before the 220.

A customers 1969 220- s/n 1085 has the engine at 3D-09936. My brothers early 1972 220 has chassis s/n 2272 and engine 3D-16989. It also is new enough to have the "fast low range" transmission option like the FWA tractors all had.

My puller 210 has fast low range also, but the "new" one I bought is a 72 s/n 2346, and does not have fast low, which stinks, because when I swap my trans to the "new" one, I'll have to swap the main shaft from one to the other lol! Never simple! 23T output vs 24T output.

In our country, fast 4th is 5.8 MPH and regular 5th is 6.3 MPH. Two perfect tillage speeds !!! And I think fast 3rd is 4.5 or 4.6 which is the same as regular 4th.

Yes, I was questioning if his had had an engine put in it at one time, new or used. His chassis was new enough to have had the newer crankshaft driven oil pump, so who knows what happened. There were some of those early camshaft driven oil pump drive gears that failed and it usually happened in the field at full throttle/full load and nothing was left in the crankshaft/line bore/ connecting rod area and the turbo. I imagine, if warranty or good-will gesture from A-C, they swapped a complete engine. A-C didn't really offer "short-blocks" back in that time frame, or not at least thru the Ag dealers network.
