Well everyone knows we have more AC projects started and less finished than anyone on the forum.....well hell...lets start another one. Many of you know that all our timberland and range land burned in 2017. So we did some salvage logging and a minimal amount of cleanup.....always planning on a big assault on site prep brush raking.... both for forestry planting and range land improvements. Still not enough hours in the day....so I did an evaluation in the yard and thought...ok what's the biggest tractor we have that we could make serviceable the quickest...... How about a 21C! Been sitting for quite some time but we got it started and moved to the wash rack So grandson Trenton is on the pressure washer......then we'll be on a search for the brake problem. As I mentioned in the video.....we might have some access to this FD30 for parts We believe all the 30 parts are interchangeable with the 21C If we can get this thing serviceable...we'll look into the FD30 parts.

What engine in the FD 30? A couple neighbours have around here have Iveco V8's but seems some had Cummins From the neighbours there is a modern starter that is a lot lighter and more effective.

i have not been on a 21C for 30 years... Always enjoyed operating them.
The FD30 was a new version of the 21C... The FD30 had the V8 IVECO engine and a new transmission based on the FD20 Italian tractor... I think the torque converter was the same... Basically the final drives and steering were the same or very similar.. I think thats what Mel means.... should be a lot of "parts" that can move from one tractor to the other..

Kind of makes my FD5 look like a toy - but then the FD5 sure out worked the HD5B it replaced . Looks like the Grouser Bars on the 21C never met the ground

Uncle had a 69 HD 21 with the Ateco hinge ripper as the orange 21 on the left of Mel's one picture without a ROPS was over 42 ton. I did not know the FD 30 was that closely related to the 21's. As uncle had one of those too after a wile. Did the late 21's and FD 30's have improvements to final drives?

We had a nest of Allis owners around here - 16's and 21's. Story I heard is that 21's had a problem with expanding the eye of one of the final drive bearings which was fixed in 21C's. Seems that the 16's didn't have the problem.

AC Mel - I have a binder full of Fiat-Allis 21-C service manuals. They cover final drives, engine, cab, steering clutches and brakes...etc. The binder includes an operations and maintenance manual. Most look like they just came out of the printer. Send me a private message if you want them.
