I have a 200 with power issues. When you first start it in the morning it runs fine, very responsive and plenty of power. After it has run for maybe 45 minutes to an hour it begins to lose power. When you throttle it up it has like no response. It will eventually increase in rpm's but there is no smoke at all, very doggy, however it has never quit. To me it acts like there is no governor response in the pump. I have replaced fuel filters, taken lines off and blown them out, and taken the fuel tank off and drained that and cleaned it out. I was out hauling round bales the other day and it did it again. A friend of mine thinks I need to put an electric fuel pump on it to push the fuel to the injector pump. I'm skeptical. It ran fine for 50 years without one so why would it need it now? I think there is something wrong with the injector pump but other people say no because it runs fine initially. If it was the pump they say it would do it all the time. I did loosen the little timing window on the side and let fuel out while it was running and that made no difference. What should I do next, rebuild the injector pump or do something else? Dr. Allis, I would appreciate your input along with any others. Thanks. Don Jr.

If it was my own, I'd remove the small fitting on top of the injection pump, lightly grind on the end, pry out the washer, throw away the glass ball and spring, blow thru it to be sure it is open and clean, reassemble and try it. If it now runs fine all the time, it is time to have the injection pump gone thru, as the governor ring is deteriorating, which plugs the pump outlet fitting, causing it to act up. You can use the tractor some but not for another year. Just plan on the pump OH in the somewhat near future.

This is the most common problem with the Roosa Master DB pump. As Dr said, the flex ring inside breaks down over time and the pieces plug the return in the pump, and sometimes the bigger pieces get in between governor pieces that impede the governor's actions. Do as Dr said, get the fitting opened up or replace with a hose barb temporarily if it's that style. The hose barb style return fitting can be saved upon pump rebuild if it's not damaged, it's now a $50 part, which adds to the price of the pump rebuild. I do a lot of them here. Good luck!

Our 200 acted exactly like that. Did what dr an Ed said, taking glass ball out of return fitting and run fine. Had Ed rebuild pump.

Maybe. But usually that occurs when you are demanding 6 GPH fuel flow from the tank, like pulling a plow, disc, etc.

I would agree that the injector pump needs some attention. I also agree with you about an electric pump - It worked perfectly for the last 50 years without one. It would be the equivalent of putting a band aid on a stab wound.

Next time it does it open the fuel cap and if you had suction and it fixes it then you know otherwise problem the pump like everyone says.

Hey there Don on my 200 that ring inside pump that everyone’s talking about bothered me for quite a while. One way to maybe confirm it would be to empty out the glass fuel filter because mine was FULL of black particles.
