Right side wasn't working. Took it apart and disc material was gone on both discs. I didn't take the actuators apart but how often do the balls fail or flat spot? I am getting my info together to order the discs and didn't know if I should go ahead and replace the balls and springs or not? The left side is either on or off no in between. I slide the tire every time. Do you think there is a problem on that side or is it because the right side would not work?

IT would not hurt to check the balls for flat spots.  If found, you might as well replace them while you are in there.  If the wheel locks up when you hit the brake, it is definitely time to replace them!

Balls should be ok, but clean the ramps where the balls work.     MACK

ALWAYS REPLACE SPRINGS WITH NEW !!  Lightly grease or anti-seize the ball pockets after cleaning them. Do the same anti-seize on the outer machined contact surfaces where they are supported when installed inside the brake housing.
