1965 Allis Chalmer FDX40-24 Detroit 2-53 Swap

Thanks for posting this project. I'm looking forward to consecutive videos. With a combined interest in A-C and Detroit engines you have my attention 

Test fitting the 2-53 into Allis.  It's a tight fit, but fit's pretty nice.  The Detroit is 31" compared to 26" for the Buda.  

Looking good, your skills for making modifications are amazing!!

Some more progress on the Detroit 2-53 swap.:)  I've got the engine mounted and started in the Allis for the first time.  Just finished up the flywheel last weekend, I joined the Buda and Detroit flywheels together and works perfect.  Now working on the hydraulic pump while the flywheel is off getting balanced.:)  On the home stretch now.:)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-jZSlnuZCE

This is in a forklift,  doesnt need alot of power but space is premium

I chose the 2-53 for it's size as the 2,3-71 and 3,4-53 are just too large to fit in the chassis.  The 2-53 is 40HP and 120 ftlbs of torque which was what the Buda D-175 had.  It's the perfect Detroit for this swap.:)

Thanks, it sure is tight.:)  A lot of challenges getting it to fit and the last piece of the puzzle it the counter weight and exhaust routing:)  Looking forward to seeing how it shakes out.:)  

That's great, pretty much mission accomplished. It's very convenient that you can wind up the RPM now and then by cruising across that big parking lot. I was always very conscious about my Detroits idling more than comfort would allow. I really appreciated how easy the Detroits would never overheat (providing everything was in order). With our hot summers it used to be common to see import excavators run with the hood open because of overheating - never a Detroit under the same conditions. 

Thanks, another couple of weeks and it should be all buttoned up.:)  If you like Detroit's my daily driver is a Ford F350 4-53T powered.:)  Here's a video of it.:

Two weeks now since the Detroit swap and running great.  Installing an electric fan and overflow bottle, then the counterweight and cage go back on.:)

Thanks for the update, it's good to see your project being a total success. For those of us that like Detroit 2-cycle there is free music to go every time on start up
