1955 wd-45 transmission housing

   Hello, I am working on a 1955 or 1956 wd-45. The tractor was given to me because of transmission issues like the stick coming out of the housing.. so I decided to fix it up as I enjoy working on antique tractors. Anyways I tore it down replaced all the bad parts bearings gears etc. All has turned out well until  I try to shift. The shifter I replaced with a new shifter lever. Replaced the alignment pins in the side to keep the shifter from twisting. When the shifter housing is off of the tractor and you try to shift it, it kicks the shifter out of the forks. I am having a hard time getting it in the transmission and getting the reverse gear and fork in right. So my question is, if the shifter housing isn’t in correctly or sitting on my tailgate should it allow the Shifter lever to kick out of the forks or is there something wrong with the shifter housing because I know on a Farmall you can shift it without being in the transmission and it will not kick the stick out of the forks. I bought another used shifter housing and it has some issues but it also lets the shifter kick out of the forks. Thanks for any information.

	Im pretty sure without it installed to keep forks in place,it will do as you say. Put trans and lever in 2nd year to install

	I would agree with Steve M. on the bench the shift forks can and will move out of positiion and the shift lever could move between the lugs. I had to finally do a farmers R&R on my 45 shift tower. It is much better. It was very worn in the ball and seat area and some of the lugs, and the reverse spring tab and ........ Thread on here somewhere if it would help. Regards, Chris
