When I went to look at the D-19, the guy had 3 WD-45s. I decided to make offer on the D-19 and one WD-45. We agreed on them, and then a few days later he told me he wanted the other two tractors gone and shot me a price I couldn't pass on.
One of the '55s fired right up. One of the rear rims and tubes are shot but held air just long enough to drive on and off the trailer. It has some neat pieces on it like the front hitch bracket for a mounted lister/bedder, a Koyker grease gun holster, rear weights, and I think a factory AC wheel wrench and parts of an AC 3 point adapter. I hope to swap a rim/tire from one of my stuck tractors, change fluids and filters, and put it to work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The other 1955 is a narrow front and the engine is loose, but the seller never had it running. It looks like someone adapted new blank rims to fit the spinout wheel center. Judging by the paint the engine has been replaced. There are parts of the hand clutch throwout for plowing, a flip over seat, a rear electric connector, and some sort of aftermarket precleaner complete with a slaw dressing jar (which is probably my favorite thing on this tractor). I'll see if it will run.
![]() ![]() The '53 supposedly was running but wouldn't start and has a leaking water pump. As far as interesting bits go it has an aftermarket seat I haven't been able to ID yet. Anyone recognize it? ![]() |

There was also a Snap Coupler blade. I'm sure I'll find a use for this somewhere, if I can find a spot around here that doesn't have 200 pound chunks of limestone sticking out of the ground?

My grandfather's WD had a mason jar air cleaner. That is one of the things I will always remember about that tractor.

Those pre-cleaners were common back then & did a good job of reducing the muck in the oil bath cleaners. Simple use for a mason jar and they were also plentiful back then. I think the dealers just added them as an option or just included them.

Thanks guys. All 3 even still have the hand cranks still mounted on the fenders. Lots of work to be done, and so much rain lately. At the moment I am trying to make sure everything is covered to keep water out and hopefully I can work on them next week when it's drier.

Been working on moving winter projects into the new shop, CA-1 made the trip yesterday. Help on the way Sunday to get the 450 moved over to it's wintering ground. Good luck with the projects! You've got some interesting ones there.

I dropped the rear weights off of the one tractor, and I swapped over a decent rim with a not so great tire from a dead tractor. I put my Snap Coupler dirt scoop on it have moved a number of things around the yard. I've been using it anytime I have to pull something off my trailer. It runs well but started randomly dying, which ended up being a no spark issue that I think was caused by a bad ballast resistor. I snagged a 12 V coil off of a dead tractor and eliminated all of the extra wiring, and just changed the oil and filter. One of the hydraulic lift rams is dripping a bit so I'll have to address that at some point.
The other WFE tractor w/o weights needed a water pump. The gas tank had a bunch of rust flakes and junk in it. Carb was pretty corroded in the bowl from water sitting in it. Cleaned all of that out, put in new choke and throttle shafts, and it started right up. There is some sort of loud ticking noise that sounds like it's in the valvetrain over the front cylinder. The exhaust isn't in good shape though, so I am hoping it's an exhaust leak bouncing around under the hood. Regardless I need to check/adjust valve clearances on both tractors and see if anything is off on the one tractor. Enjoy this picture of the good running WD45 skidding around a Gleaner CII engine. It was too long and heavy to lift in scoop, but I chained it to the front and was able to lift the front of the skid off the ground and drag it where I needed to go. ![]() |
