I'm going to have to stop dragging stuff home for a while after this one. I've been looking for a Snap Coupler disk and this one popped up 3 hours away, with a 1951 WD, a pile of parts, and 3 plows. The engine even turns over slowly with the starter so I may spend an afternoon messing around with it to see if it will run.
I believe the disk is an 8.5' 20 series. It needs new disks, a few scrapers, and probably bearings. |

You're on a roll. Back to the WFE thread-I don't know if that clutch kick-out was an AC item or after market. Strangely my 45 has one & it came out of Knecht Imp. in Paola. Not that far from Lawrence or Wellsville. Must be those KS rocks, never saw it on any tractors in NE. I dismantled mine, just one more thing to get in the way since it's not doing any plow work. Your time will be taken up with your additions and you've definitely got the fever.

WOW, I can't believe the condition of the sheet metal ! Especially the tail end of the rear fenders. No jams, no scratches, no cracks That Tractor is a museum piece. What is the Serial Number? Gary |

All of the ones I've seen are AC. My December 1954 Moldboard Plows parts catalog shows the WD Clutch Release on page 94. I would like to find one - doubt I'll plow much but I will on occasion, and big rocks! It looks like a guy could make one if necessary with some measuring and cutting, bending, and welding.

Good question. I have been poking around at pictures online. The two bars at the end have a slight downwards (or upwards?) curl at the end of the two points where it would have connected to whatever implement it was for. It doesn't look like any Snap Coupler disk, rake, rotary hoe, etc. that I am familiar with. It's closest to my field cultivator hitch but that doesn't have the curved pieces at the ends.

Let me see if I can get you some pictures of that drawbar hitch. It's part of a lister type planter toolbar thing, but the ones I have are for pin hitch WD's

The tractor SN is WD92996. The engine is WD300982PA so it's only about 10000 engines into production with the tall head. Just before the camshaft thrust hardware changes. It's been repainted before but does have very good fenders. The WD-45 I got last weekend had the usual destroyed back fender sections.

Thanks for posting those pictures. It's interesting that the front of the hitch is supposed to be up in front of the pin/snap coupler bell on the tractor. Someone put a snap coupler eye on the front of this. Too bad it didn't come with the depth adjust levers and the toolbar. That would be handy. Still, it's about 2x the size of the hitch weldment for the spring tooth field cultivator so it should be beefy.
Maybe even bale spear frame material?

I finally got some time with this tractor yesterday. I cleaned off the points. The rotor and cap didn't have much corrosion. Pulled the spark plugs and #s 1 and 3 were very rusted in the threads, but looking down into the cylinder the section I could see wasn't rusty.
I grabbed a battery out of another tractor and realized that the size of the cable terminals were set up for smaller and larger posts w/ the battery as positive ground. I hooked the battery up and did not turn on the ignition, and it cranked the engine over no problem. I realized that this tractor is still 6V positive ground so I am going to have to see if I can revive one of my old 6V batteries, buy a new one, or convert it to 12V. I'm putting the carb back together this morning. It would be nice to see if I can get this tractor running for a minute or so and then spend more money and effort if I know it's a runner.

You can use 12v, just don't crank very long or turn on any lights-not that they would work anyway.

Follow up, depending on if mag or distributor you'll need a 12v coil or a resistor if it has a distributor. Sorry for the omission now that I think about it.

Thanks - yes I would borrow a resistor off of another tractor if I wind up having to use a 12V battery in this for testing. Honestly the wiring harness on this tractor would need to be completely replaced if I were to get it running well enough to use it. It might still be original.
