I have a 1950 B. It hasn't been started in a few years. the carb is gummed up with a shellac type stuff. What is the best thing to clean it in or let in soak in? Thanks. Russ.

I drop them in pail of NAPA carburetor cleaner over night after removing the jets and small parts like float and seat. The stuff in spray cans just does not do it well. I have read in tractor related posts on different sites where they boil the carburetors in water to remove the crud first. I have not done this but have been thinking of trying it. Problem is Dixie is not out of the house when I am home long enough to get the water up to boiling. After using the oven to dry small painted parts I get the idea that she don't trust me home alone. I didn't realize that the paint odor lasted that long when I was not married.  (:^D

As Dick mentioned, the Napa carb cleaner works quite well. A great way to pick-up where the Napa cleaner left off is to glassbead it after the dip. Not everyone owns a glassbeader, but cleaning it out with a small wire brush will help. A good washing out with Brakekleen will get rid of the dip pail residue before the rebuild parts are installed...

Thanks for the info. I got a gallon of the NAPA cleaner and put it in this AM. Will probably leave it in all night. It is amazing how much crud can build up on and in it.
