With all this talk on the 426 gen set into tractor is there that much involved in putting a 301 diesel out of M combine into a XT gasser? when I did a 262 diesel out of combine into a d17 to put tractor front mount on you would of had to pull cam or try to get pressed on gear off so we made brackets for combine mount it worked out well but please tell me the cam is bolted on both the 301 engines |

Good you have to change the front plate and cover becuase of the hy.pump so you will have the same problem as the 262 with the cam gear Niel

In the parts books I thought they changed to bolt on gear at a certain point maybe when they went to crank driven oil pump is that after the 2900 series

cam gear is still a press fit, retained by the bolt as preventive measure.

when I done the combine to 190 swap a long time ago I didnt have a good enough puller for the cam gear so I stood the engine up on its tail(flywheel)took off the rocker arms, pushed the lifters out of the way and took out the complete cam, worked for me

You can remove the push rods and put wooden dowels that fit tight into the lifters then lift them up and put rubber bands on the dowels to prevent them from dropping. Then you can pull the cam. Never did it on a 190 though.

Has anyone had issues with front axle clearance? I am planning on putting a 301 out of an M into my 85 but this new motor has the crank driven oil pump where the original 185 2800 301 had a cam driven oil pump
