    Posted: 01 May 2011 at 5:45pm
I was wanting to through out a question to the more informed (smarter) then I. would the tires and rims (18.4 34) fit on my D17? The thing I was concerned  about was the extra height putting more strain on the drive train. I know where a 190 is with really good back tires even has duals that I think I could buy for less then a new set of 18.4 28s that I currently have right now. any info appreciated

how do you plan to attach the wheels? 190 has bar axles, D17 has 8 lug bolt on wheels. Best to just find the right tires, you'll spend more fiddling around than it's worth.

that is why I asked. I had no idea whether it would even work. But I think I could buy the 190 for a thousand so figured if I could I might utilize the newer tires.

A good deal for a 190 for sure. for rear wheels/tires a 185 or smaller will interchange.

i guess the question I should have asked was is there such a thing as a 34" rim that will fit a d17? If so what would I need to look for in order to find them?

If you're good at welding, it can be done. I have a neighbor that did just what you want. He used the D17 centers and made 4 large "spokes" and welded them to the larger rim. No more power adjust. What he did looks a lot like the rear wheels on a D17 wheatland.

I always say, give me a cutting torch and a welder and I can make just about anything. A metal lathe comes in handy once in a while.
