does your tractor have an old generator... or a  newer alternator ?
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

It's under the black part of the hood for the steering column. Had trouble with mine some years back. I'll see if I can find a link to that thread.

Found it, may not be a big help though.

should look like one of these... a generator uses the voltage regulator... and OLD ALTERNATOR can have a regulator also.. NEW alternators do not need a regulator, it is internal..... How was the tractor charging the battery before without the reg ?

generator

alternator

that looks like a Delco with a tack drive ?? If it charged before WITHOUT the regulator, then i would assume it has an INTERNAL regualtor... You can look at the TWO PIN CONNECTOR and see if they are parallel to each other or IN LINE with each other.. But since it WAS WORKING.. i think  you dont need the regulator wires,  but need to make sure the TWO PIN CONNECTOR is part of the NEW HARNESS.

check the two wires on the small plug on the alternator... something was rewired at that point for the alternator... you need that on your new harness.

185s never had generators.  All were alternator with voltage regulator from the factory.  If it was charging before the wiring harness was changed, then one of the wires are not going where it is supposed to.  When I bought my 190XT, one of the wires intended for the alternator was actually hooked up to the water temperature sensor!  No wonder it didn't charge!
