JC yes I had the lever tied forward, I guess if they hadn’t moved in 25 years then that would explain everything!

That does not make sense... unless the cylinders were stuck at the very top.  And that could be possible if the seals in one of the rams are bad. Had that happen to my 170 once.
  To totally relieve the TB you have to have the 3pt leaver fully forward in the lower position, otherwise the first click past hold position just restricts the fluid from passing dependent on where the draft and height controls are set. and the rate of lower screw is set too.

My helper and I made sure the TB links were good and the lift arm still wouldn’t go down with me on them. I said hey Greg get back here and sit on this other arm and sure enough with the 430 total pounds the arms went right down! First time since we’ve owned it, so it actually was the stuck tb plunger after all. Thanks. Dana

Yes sir tomorrow I will get a helper and check all of those linkages it’s hard to move the lever both ways to it’s entirety and still see underneath. My 175 is the only one I had trouble with and it was the stuck valvel. I will report thanks to all. D

When you said the linkage is free, did you just move the position control and traction booster levers and call them good?  If I recall, the 185 has 3 pivot points in the linkage.  You have to crawl under the tractor and try moving them by hand - you may need to disconnect some of the other levers to see if these pivots are not stuck.  My 185 had a pivot under under the right floor pan that was rusted up and would not move.  Got it freed up and checked all the other spots for easy movement and the problem was solved.  Taking apart, cleaning and using anti seize is the best solution.
Only one of my tractors had a valve that was slightly stuck.  All the others had problems with the linkages.

Maybe difficult to see but inside the plunger cap I removed are these 4 washers, one of which is very thick. Book doesn’t show any, what gives??

Take hose off one cylinder if they sill don't go down when you stand on is one of the cylinders

Engine off. Tall outside front lever tied fully forward. Stand on the 3-point and the arms should go down.

Uh oh. I Tapped that valve in and they still won’t go down. Depth and tb levers clear forward. Who knows before I bought the tractor six years ago what the previous guy did with all of the linkage adjustments? I will have to take a picture of the linkage on my other 185 and compared to what is on this one maybe I can figure it out that way. Cheers. Dana

I have had to do it before too, It will be the traction booster valve section, the one that is not connected to your control levers but has a short lever that comes up from all the linkages of the height/depth and traction booster controls.   which I believe it will be your right spool valve cover that you are not showing in picture because it is a shorter cover.
  From what I have seen, the 180/185 came with dual remote spools and a three point valve which are your three long covers on the back, and off to the right of them will be the cover for the TB.
  Make sure your lever in front of spool valve that pushes it in moves freely before you take back cover off... just to make sure the spool is not sticking and the plunger rod moves freely in the spool.  
  Three out of four times it is the linkage being the culprit. Just once for the spool sticking in my experience, and it didn't take very much to get it unstuck.. valve is spring loaded forward.  Spray penetrant inside to lube it and helps preventing it from sticking again.

Next valve section over from the TEE handle, directly above the acorn nut, remove the two allen screws and the short aluminum cover and spring. Drive the plunger forward until the snap ring is seated. Arms should now be able to go down.

I hate to ask and beat a dead horse again especially for the poor doctor but On my 185 The rear lift arms will not go down and all of my linkages are free. Dr Allis once told me which stack to take a little punch and tap something back towards the front but I need to know which one that was. And you better believe I thank you again. Capt.Dana
