i think i'm buying the 3pt off a 185 to put on my d17IV. i need to take it off the tractor myself though. can you guys tell me what all tools i might need.
i know i'll need the upper arms, lower arms, and drawbar assembly. what else will i need? cylinders? top link plate...i have one on mine now, but i have no idea if it's right for the factory 3pt cat II.

also, will the 185 fenders fit the d17? or, how much modification would be needed to make them work? mine are pretty crappy, and i really like the flat-top look.

the guy wants $650 for 3pt if i remove, does that sound about right to you guys? i haven't asked about fender price though, about what should those be worth if they're straight and no rust?

My D-17 has 185 fenders.  If memory serves they bolt right on.

Skip - first the fenders...if buying retail, salvage yards will ask at least $400 pair if not more.   However it has been my experience you can often score a pair on eBay or Craigslist for under $150 if you are patient.   And yes they bolt right up.

On the 3 point, standard tools should take it off except I think there are 4 bolts possibly that are not standard hex head nuts but maybe some kind of 12 point star head bolt?  I still think you can get them off with a 12 point socket?  You'll not only want to get the upper and lower lift arms, toplink bracket and main rear frame but also the drawbar, front drawbar bracket/pin and all the linkages to connect to the hydraulic controls.  Also check to see if it has both Cat 2 sway blocks.  If those are missing they are worth $80 a pair at least so use that in negotiating price.  $650 if fair if EVERYTHING is there.   If you are pulling off a salvage tractor from an individual see if you can get him to throw in the whole hydraulic spool assembly on the right fender for that price.  Good luck!  Mike

thanks for the input everyone. just as an fyi, 12pt sockets do fit the "torx" looking bolts on the drawbar assembly.
i've decided to pass on doing the conversion for now. i've got my tractor for sale still, so i'm gonna try not to spend any money on it....except fixing the leak from the PD handle. i guess leak is kind of an understatement. nothing like trying to hit the brakes when your boot has been sitting in oil!!!
i've dropped the price a little on mine and relisted on craig's list....maybe i'll get some interest soon, if not, i guess next spring i may think about the conversion again.
