Theres an interesting 180D on Hibid. Mulrooney Auction Co. has it. Was there a orchard 180 made or is this a home one?

I have a pair of wheel weights that came off a 180 or possibly a 185 that had fenders like that. It was in the 'yard' at Colfax tractor, not sure if it's still there or not. Maybe I'll run over and have a look later today.

front axle has obviously been modified.. Original had DROP king pins ... photo shows the axle TUBE about centered in the wheel / hub.
stock 180 front axle

I think the final drives must be rotated forward one hole to lower it down in the rear.

Steve I believe they flip spindles upside down. Are these rare. Iv never seen them around. But you don’t see them in to many collections

The picture I posted is at least five years old, not sure if that tractor is still there or not. This discussion has me curious. If I can just get free for a few to go have a look. Dr.'s thought about rotating the finals forward is leading my curiosity.

Is the muffler hole in hood blocked off. Was there anything stamped into sr no for orchard tractors

Mike... i think your on to something... If you pull the Square Tube axle out of each side and flip it... it kind of looks like your photo above... that should drop it a few inches..

Would not surprise me if there was a shop out here in California that did more than just 1 or 2 of those one 180's. Look at the much newer CaseIH just behind it, I believe that cab and limb lifters was a California made as well. A million acres of almonds need lots of tractors, not counting peaches, plums, pears, apples, pistachios, and cherries.
But a larger farm with lots of cheap help, can make expensive tractor maintenance. Which leads to a short life for many tractors out here.

From reliable sources, the factory built very few dedicated orchard models. Something like this would have been converted by dealers in the California area. While AC may have provided parts for these conversions, they are not factory made orchard tractors.

Doc, I'm not sure what they are. Looking at them they almost look like Oliver weights but maybe not quite. I've seen the Case weights you mention, not sure if that's right either? It would be nice if there were a Brian Ahart type site for each brand. If you look closely you can see the wheel weights I took off in the edges of the picture.

I have a White with one or two of those type weights. But a flame cut piece of 3 inch plate was added in front of the factor weigh. So I have never seen the front side of the factor weight. So the Oliver idea sounds very possible.

I see an original cast iron A-C wrap-around starter weight (approx 250 lbs) bolted to the front of the tractor. Then I see FIVE identical weights attached to the starter weight. Nothing flame cut. ALL cast iron. Oliver does sound better than what I thought was J.I. Case.

Those weights are Allis Chalmers industrial like used on the rear of an HD-4 crawler loader.

I have a D17 diesel from California that has been lowered and the final drives rotated like this 185. Showed a picture to the late Norm Swinford who in my opinion was the ultimate authority on all things AC. He said that none left the factory that way, Large dealers in California would modify a new tractor to the customer's specs. A lot were J&M conversions. There was a nice 185 like this at the Nesbit sale in 2017. Friend bought it and modified it back to a regular farm tractor.

I’m trying to figure out the 3 pt. Not sure why the left side needed a hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower that side? Not sure what equipment would need to be raised or lowered on just one side?

Very possibly a blade to put up a boarder for flood irrigation. Back in the day of a 180 all most all tree crops would have been flood irrigated. I have never used irrigation but the boarders or checks as I learned of them could be removed for some operations. Then a pass or 2 and it is back to run more water.
