Like the title says my isn’t working. I have checked the continuity of the sending wire so my question is do i replace the sending unit or guage .

It is hard to say which needs replacing until you do some checking. Does the gauge move at all or is it stuck one way or the other? What happens at the gauge if you remove the wire from the sender and ground the wire? As for replacing one or the other. The ohm range for both a gauge and sender must match. I don't have a 180's service manual to check, your service manual may give the ohm range for them, which you will need if you want to get a replacement (other than by part number from AGCO). If using aftermarket replacements, I find it as easy to get a matching gauge and sender together in a kit.

I think this right. I might have it backwards. If the guage is ok and you take the wire off the sensor it should go full hot. If you ground the wire it should go full cold

On 180 and 185 models I have had problems with air being trapped at the thermostat not allowing water to get to the sending unit. This can also cause the tractor to overheat. Look in radiator to see if water is circulating and feel thermostat housing to see if temperature is same both sides of thermostat. The cure for this is to loosen thermostat housing allowing water to take the place of the air trapped inside. The best cure for this problem is to be sure the thermostat has a small hole to relieve trapped air. I had enough problems with this that I always drill a small hole in thermostat.

Well this morning I unhooked the wire at the sender then grounded that wire and noticed the guage going full hot.
So with that happening I’m thinking I need a new sender. Am I correct? Thanks in advance |

IF your gauge says Allis Chalmers on its face try this OEM number for AC185 & 200 tractors. The AGCO dealer will need to update the number to AGCO.
IF your gauge is an aftermarket this sender number may not work with it. I've not seen any 180's that had electric temp gauge, they've had the old tube & bulb type gauges. The 185 & 200 usually have electric gauge. |

To my knowledge the bulb and tube style gauges ended with the D series tractors. All 100 series tractors have the electric gauges. I have 13 of them ranging from the 170 to the 220 and they are all factory original wiring with electric gauges.
