I have a 180 diesel that died in the middle of the road yesterday. Fired right back up. Drove it 15 seconds and died again. Finally got her home. But runs even a shorter amount of time now. Noticed that the odometer was all over the place. Guessing the injector pump is shot. Looking for any other causes before i spend 1350 bucks on a pump.

Most likely the Flex ring in the pump came apart. Mine did the same and would die eveyr 15 minutes to an hour. a pump rebuild fixed it andcost about $900 3 years ago.
Ed Guenther on here rebuilt mine and did a great job.

The tachometer connect to the alternator ( at least it is on my 185) and isn't related to the pump. The tack could have it's own issues.

Confirm supply to pump before anything
Most likely you have a partial blockage at tank. Also check that tank cap is venting properly |

I agree with that, fuel tank, lines, filters first. What is your fuel level in your tank? The reason I ask that is we had a similar issue with our 6060. Pulled the fuel tank off to clean it and washed out a foil cap off a can of fuel additive. It would float over the nipple and shut the fuel off. Wait a few minutes and it would start up again, run a few minutes and stop again. It had a 1/8th tank of fuel in it. Make sure you have good flow all the way to the pump.

Good point from Gleaner. SOmeitmes I assume poeple have already done basic toruble shooting. Check your fuel flow and fuel filter before rebuilding pump.
My fueld filter was restricted once and it would die under heavy load, but would restart and be ok under light loads. When it died, I could actually pinch the filter and tell it was sucked in trying to get fuel. |

Loosen one of the timing window screws so there is a slight fuel leak. If it now keeps running, it's the pump outlet being plugged and pump needs an OHaul.

I had a similar situation with my 185. I could improve run times by pressuring up the fuel supply to the filter/pump by applying a few strokes of the fuel supply hand pump. Changed out the fuel filter and problem solved. My tractor sits idle over the winter, and this operating problem occurred in the spring not long after fired it up Good luck resolving your issue
