Thinking about putting a 433t from a F2 into a 170 What flywheel and clutch would work? Do I need a adapter plate? It’s a earlier 170 with side hyd pump.

You'd better think hard about doing that. Your problems will be spacing the engine forward at least 1 inch to get the clutch shaft and hydraulic pump shaft to mate properly and then you'll have to deal with the power steering cylinder at the right front corner of the engine. I don't think there is room for it as the engines timing cover and front plate will not allow the steer cylinder to fit. I have not done an old One-Seventy, but this is what I think you'll encounter. A later model front pump chassis is easy peasy.

just install another perkins engine. These engines start easily and are easy on fuel.
most 433 engines were hard starters but easy on fuel.

Almost. 180-185-190-190XT are 16 to 1 compression ratio for the very best cold starting. 200-7000-7010-7020-8010 are 15 to 1 compression. Original 433-T's and 433-I's were 14 to 1 compression up until 1982 or 83 ?? when they went to 15 to 1 I think.

Thanks for the info. I wondered about the steering setup. Maybe I’ll look for a later 170-175. I think it would make a neat tractor

Some photos of a later one we did. 190 flywheel and clutch. If I remember correctly the adapter plate is 1 3/8" thick. Still had to grind a little in the bell housing for clutch to clear. Edited by Chad S - 26 Nov 2021 at 4:33pm |

That’s a neat combo, how long have you been running it with the 433 in it?

There is a gentleman in my area that has a D-17 and a Farmall M with 433's in them. Have plowed with him a few times, he doesn't ever seem to be short on power! Pumps are set to 6080 specs. He has a lot of other neat stuff too. Edited by IBWD MIke - 27 Nov 2021 at 7:51am |

I'd like to see that D-17, Mike. Might be a diesel chassis (3 inches longer than gas)??? And does it have power steering ??

Doc, not sure if it was a gas or diesel to start with. I'll try to get that info when I run into him. It does have power steering, it's char-lynn. That is the only picture of it that I have, will get more if the opportunity comes up. He also has a D-17 with 18.4x34's on it. Welded pieces in between the stock center and the rims. It's nicely done.

Thanks chad for the pics. Is the plate on the back of the engine custom made or was it off a combine? Looks like it was a factory motor in those tractors!

With the diesel clutch shaft the 433 with 190 flywheel, clutch and rear plate the 433 will fit, a gear reduction starter fits without grinding the housing also.

The D-17 series has two different clutch shaft lengths, with the gas engine being approximately 1.25" longer than the deezel clutch shaft. All One-Seventy's, 170 and 175's are all the same length, which is the LONG length same as the D-17 gassers. This complicates the installation of the 433/2400 series engine into the side hydraulic pump chassis. You can't shove the engine back that 1.25" and the power steering ram is in the way at the RF corner of the engine.

The rear engine plate is what was on the engine from a combine. It was the same as a 190.

Doc, I talked to Bill, said the D-17 was born a gas tractor. Had plenty of room for the 433, made his own adapter plate.

It's how he did the power steering is what I'm interested in. And if it is a Char-Lynn unit where did he put it ??

Doc, it is a Char-Lynn unit. The torque generator is mounted on the steering shaft above the U-joint. I have no idea how well it works or how hard it was to get it there.

I can see how that part would work but, there's a problem getting the steering shaft to clear the left front corner of the engine block/front engine mount. I know where there's one with a 301 gas engine shoved in it that he has a chain drive in that area to get things to connect up so he can steer it. I can't imagine it drives very nice down the road.
