I picked up a 170 last week and need to replace the front tires. It appears to have 6.50s on it and I was wondering what other owners were running and how they look.

I run 7.50 sixteens on the front of my 170. The rims on the back wheels were rusted out  and when i stopped at the tire store they had a pair of 16.9 30s complete with hubs that came off the front of a Case IH magnum that i put on the back of my 170. They were black,so i had to paint them, but the tractor sits level now.

In my 22+ years in the tire shop, I found most to be running 6:50X16's on wide and narrow fronts. I did put 750X16's on the front of my Series 4 diesel, wide front. I like them on there. 16.9X28'S on the back of the series 4.

7.50 x 16 on both of my D17 IVs, 175 and 185.  190XT also had them, but I changed them to 10.00 x 16.

I have a Series IV D 17 in the shop right now getting a motor installed it has 7.50 X 16 on the front and its too wide of a tire as far as I'm concerned.I'll get a set of 6.50 X 16 to put on it. Big tires don't make a tractor bigger or more capable just the opposite many times.
