 Topic: 160 Clutch and pressure plate

Thanks for allowing me on the forum. I am working on a Model 160 for a good friend of mine. His clutch/throwout bearing tore up the fingers on the pressure plate. I am trying to find someone that has at least 1 good finger. I have tried all the usual parts places, but no one has fingers. I am sure that the 6040 uses the same fingers. I am willing to make an extra set for someone if I could just get a good sample. Thanks in advance.

I can’t help you with the fingers but make sure you put the clutch shims with the flat side facing out towards the bell housing. It will not release the clutch if you don’t. Rick Corder may be able to help you with finding fingers. He is a member on here.

Thank you AC720MAN. I appreciate the advice. These AC's are so hard to find parts for. I am sure it would be easier if it were a more common model. I can fabricate/machine the fingers if I just had something close. These fingers are so worn that they are about snapped in half.

They are getting harder to find parts for due to the low production numbers but they are good little tractors. I really enjoy using mine. So far I have found parts but requires more research than my other AC models. Hope you find some fingers, reach out to Rick, he may be able to help you find some. Out of curiosity how many hours on on this tractor? Mine had 7540 hours on it when I rebuilt the engine and had Rick rebuild both clutches.

AC720Man how do i get a whole of Rick i have one setting on a shelf that needs rebuilding ? got to replace this winter in my 160. she also leaking oil real main seal and i seen in repair book it talked about a plug some place which i never found the last time i was in it.

years ago i have gotten fingers from MF dealer for 135 they used same clutch for my 160
|

John/WVA...The best thing to do with the unit you have sitting on the shelf would be to send it to Kentucky Clutch in Brooks, KY. and have them rebuild it for you. Good people to work with and do a great job. Celtic Clamper...As for repairing the worn down fingers...a set from a 6140 I'm pretty positive are the same exact thing, so you can look for a unit with good fingers in it and have that core rebuilt...I think I would just save the old core for the parts, because they're not making any more of them, for sure. The Massey 135 clutch unit and the 160 clutch unit are totally 100% different...I doubt they're an exact interchange...Rick

I agree with Rick. Send to Ky Clutch or better yet take it there along with flywheel, clutch throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and allow them to set everything right. They should have everything you need and are very knowledgeable.

ac mike good ideal but cost a lot to ship and its almost 600 miles from me clutch i can handle but fly wheel weights alot

That is one of the heaviest flywheels I’ve ever picked up John, I know what you mean about shipping. I had a local shop do mine while Rick did my clutch. A good local shop should be able to handle that.

John WV...Take the flywheel to a more localized reputable shop and have them do that for you...would be a lot cheaper than shipping it across country both ways! LOL!
