I bought a C earlier today with a G series motor in it. I am unsure which block it has. It has a D10 style manifold. Casting # is Am4902-1 does anyone know what block it is? It has a block drain plug right below where the oil line threads into the block. There is no hole for a fuel pump. My 149 does not have that plug.

Check the engine flange on the left rear side If the serial number starts 10-xxx its a 138
12-xxx its a 149

Gary, Early D-10/12 had the 138 cu.in. engine. When they got live hydraulics and independent PTO they also got the 149 engine.

Some with live hydraulics and live PTO out there at the end of the 138 run. I have #2460 which makes it 1960; PO advised his father bought it new as he had plenty of 3-pt. Ford equipment but wanted "Allis power".

Right So your earlier reply to the original post is incorrect. It could be one of the first D-12's with a 138 engine. Gary "Check the engine flange on the left rear side If the serial number starts 10-xxx its a 138 12-xxx its a 149" |

All the info that I have says that the D-10 at serial 3501 and above and the D-12 at serial 3001 and above got the 149 engine, independent PTO and hydraulics.
3 pt hitch was available from the beginning and there was a live hydraulic option with an engine driven pump and a little tank by the distributer before the independent upgrade . That option was low pressure and non traction booster. Have some of each.

Interesting data out there on s/n breaks by models and my D12 fence row find had me scratching my head when first found as quill shaft equipped. One can only assume that features were added/changed as they came out of engineering and hit the manufacturing line and somebody had to "bracket" the cutoffs, which are not written in stone on many A-C models.

Yes Calvin, again, agree completely. The point I am making is: The Torque Tube could be stamped 12 1XXX and would be a 138 cu.in. engine and NOT a 149 cu.in as you had previously stated. Gary |

I have a D-10 series III with the 149 and the reang transmission.
It makes a very nice set-up for the tractor caravans. It will do 16.25 MPH. Dusty |

Gary, the tractor serial number is stamped on the torque tube and the engine number is stamped on the engine flange next to it. That is where some confusion comes in. Early D-12's will have a D-12 serial # and some think because the engine # starts with a 10-xxx, it has a D-10 engine. Not so ,but its will be a 138 engine.

This tractor is an Allis C it has no numbers on the torque tube, but does have a 12-XXXX stamped on engine flange.
