Was having lunch with my brother,schmeakhead. He is a former caseih vp who go traded to LS . He was telling me about how much farm equipment is made by a third party, then spray painted and sold as another companies product. I thought this was a recent deal but he said it has been going on forever, especially with plows. Anybody know if ac ever did this? I know they bought 160, 5040 and 5050 from fiat, but did we ever sell to someone? |

I have a 680 Ford forage harvester, blue with Ford decals and it has an Allis-Chalmers 3 row 20 inch corn head. Both were bought from dealers just 6 miles apart. Everything is really a 782 Allis-Chalmers. ------------- B, C, RC, 3 wc,2 wd,3 wd45, d15, d17, d19, d21, 190, 440, 7040, 918 backhoe, 12 roto balers, 7 60 combines, 40, 66,2 72,90 super, sp100, Gleaner E, F3, 3 L2, R62, and much more |

This is not uncommon. I have a Hann-Eclipse 200 riding lawn mower, that also the Allis-Chalmers Mo-Bee. ------------- I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science. |

Back in the late 60's or early 70's, Dad bought a new AC 780 forage harvester and one of the neighbors had a 680 Ford. They were identical and the Ford had orange paint under the blue. I'm quite sure AC built a square baler for Ford around the same time frame. Electric Wheel Company built wagons for several different companies (including AC) for many years. Yanmar has built John Deere's smaller tractors for decades. |

| The amount of john deere stuff that waa made by other companies is huge: grinder mixers, mower conditioner, Manure spreaders,ect. That is why they now have the frontier line; for all the stuff they sell but didn't make. |

| Think it’s more common with IH. My haybine is red with IH emblems but it’s a new idea 509 underneath. Round baler is the same thing, just a red new idea. Believe rakes were as well. They’re early 80s models and my guess is they didn’t have much money for R&D in that period. |

To my knowledge, they used the power director. I would best describe it as a 4W305 drive train with a steiger tractor sitting on it, and a Cummins engine. I believe it was around 250 horsepower. There was a former Allis Chalmers engineer named Mark who used to be on the forum here, but has since passed away, who one time posted about that deal with steiger. The way it came about, was that him and an engineer at steiger had formerly worked together at white, then went separate ways to AC and Steiger, but remained friends, and it was through that friendship that the deal got made for Steiger to buy these drive train components from Allis in order to get themselves an adjustable tread row crop tractor. Allis Chalmers and Simplicity Garden Tractors were essentially the same for many years and the Homelite Garden Tractors were the same except for the paint color This has been noted previously in the Garden tractors section of the Forum It helps when sourcing parts or attachments
