My dad bought a CA a few years ago, needs a new throw out bearing, but other than that it seems fine, however ive noticed 4th gear (Road gear) seems way to fast, spec sheets say it should do 12mph, it seems to do WAY more, i dont have an exact speed but id say north of 20mph, any ideas as to why it is so fast? |

| I doubt that it is 20 MPH. Only two things make it go faster...….excessive engine RPM's or oversized diameter rear tires. That's it. I suppose it could have had an overdrive box installed, but you don't say that it does and there would be another shifter lever ahead of the steering post if it did. |

| I have 12.4s on my CA. Only way I could even guess how fast it is was to put my GPS on pedestrian mode and do it to it. The GPS showed 16 mph and I'm not sure that was a correct reading, if it was 16 mph is as fast as I want to go on it. I agree with Dr.Allis I doubt it was going 20,, but I can tell you 16 mph and I was looking for the flaps down lever |

| ive seen my dad driving it, mind me from a ways away, but yeah way more than 12, ill check tire size tomorrow if i can, they seem the right size tho, all i know is 4th gear above idle is a little bit scary especially on uneven ground |

Every road gear is a little scary on uneven ground! Shouldn't even be using road gear on uneven ground unless you want the tractor to wind up on top of you! Lots of tractors look fast from "a ways away". | My CA with 14.9x24 does 13 mph that seams real fasr till after a couple miles. My C was so loose in the front end that i never used 3rd gear 6 mph was faster than I was willing to go. Since it never left my yard without being on a trailer it was fine. The newer tractors at the farm will all go over 20 mph but 20 in 30k tractor with 20k implement behind its way to fast it seams like im going over a 100. |

yeah, road gear should be used for the road, but ehh curiosity got the best of me, wanna hear about the rest of the times i was dumb? lmao, i try not to be but it happens

doesnt help when it has 1/4 turn of slop in the steering wheel, we may need to look into fixing that soon, feels weird when mowing to look down and see the wheels going every which way but the steering wheel isnt moving

ive come to the conclusion, yall are right, it aint going as fast as it seems, but even on pavement its sketchy at best |

for your throw out bearing, you might look UP from the bottom , there is an egg shaped hole about 3 inches in diameter... might have a tin cover over it... under the clutch area... You can see the throw out bearing... Might spray it with penetrant or oil.... On a couple of my Bs there is a grease zerk you can lube the bearing... might look into that.

I've never had a problem with road gear wide open, NF WC, NF and WF WDs, WF WD45, WF D14, NF D17. Although I was a little concerned when I pulled the NH Mowditioner with the WF WD45 and I had to swerve for those damn black and white wooden road posts. I had a blast riding on the fender of the D21, road gear and speedometer said 25 mph. I was a little concerned pulling a loaded hay wagon in road gear with a NF McCormick 300. I hated those red tractors. Too tall and narrow. ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |

ive done all the looking thats possible with a belly mower on it, no way to lay down and work lol, we will probably just put a whole new clutch in it, since we have no idea how old it is, and its almost out of adjustment

| CAs are generally faster on the road than many other tractors of the era. When I was a kid our CA was used by my uncles cultivating crew along with some other makes (mostly JD). The CA could run circles around the other tractors on the road. |
