How many acres would be an average for wearing stalk roll blades before flipping them. Mine has around 700 and feeding was an issue this fall especially on the left outside row. Upon cleaning things up I see leading edges are getting rounded. Is this in the ballpark for my head? It gets force fed but hey!

I assume you mean 700 total and not 700 per row. AGCO or Shoup? There is a little difference. Had some aftermarket ones before and they didn’t seem too last as long. I will say this year seemed tougher with feeding issues, a specially in late afternoon. Could go pretty good and then around 3 o’clock would have to slow down cause of feeding problems and when the sun started going down could speed back up again. Thought it was just me cause mine are pretty worn and will be replaced before next season. Stuff was extra fluffy this year.

We put all new flutes on after the first 50 acres. We didn't realize how badly they were worn until we started putting the new ones on. World of difference. We got ours from Shoup. 8 row 30 hugger on an R62.

Uncle always said "Fill the back of the shovel and the front will take care of itself".

My philosophy has always been, you can replace the blades once. Then, when they need replacement again, the spirol roll points need to be replaced too. You are all aware of the "updated" blade improvement in a service bulletin from AGCO ??? They have you cutting out material in certain spots of the blades at the front to create a "window" for better feeding. It's probably a 10 year old bulletin. Your dealer should be able to provide you with it. It does help on blades that are so-so for wear and have feeding problems.

When I bought this head it had new flutes and spirals the year before. Guessing AGCO because of where work was done. I trimmed the flutes per bulletin first year. Never had before and after experience on that to say how much it helps.
